KNOWING YOUR STYLE AND BODY SHAPE
Virtual Mirrors suit range has been designed by our in-house designer Caroline Chung with the aim of providing our customers a choice of ladies suits that will not only fit your shape, but provide you with a variety of options for styling preferences and finishes that will enable you to make your suit truly your own.
As our services at Virtual Mirrors are new to market, and as you’ll know from store shopping, where you can be tempted to buy what fits as opposed to what makes you feel fabulous, we are often asked – what suits my shape?
Everyone is an individual, and really, it’s not just about your body shape – it’s about your personal preferences, too! Here, we’ve provided our guidance to help you with your choices – if you need it - but bear in mind, that’s all it is.
Enjoy designing your suit and, of course, showing it off to all of your friends!
JACKET CHOICES
1, 2 or 3 buttons – what’s the difference?
Again, really, this is down to individual preference and style; however, there are a few tips that we’d like to share!
For the petite among us, simply having 1 button front will accentuate your waist line, however, having 2 or 3 buttons will also give a more defined shape around the bust, creating a more fitted and tailored look.
If you are long and lean, maybe going for the 3 button would help to balance out body length proportions.
Going for 1 button front will help create a neat and fitted waistline for those who are hourglass shaped.
Similarly, larger busted ladies will find the 1button jacket elongates the look from neck to waist, drawing attention away from your bust, focusing on your cleavage and drawing the eye to your waistline.
Shape of collar and bottom of jacket?
These preferences for shape can change how a jacket looks – see the differences in the design room. The square shape gives a modern look and can be slimming; however a rounded edge creates a beautiful softness and femininity.
Jacket vents – single or none at all?
Ladies, we’ll let you in to a secret with this one – as your suit is fitted to your size, the vent is really for aesthetics and don’t be put off if you have a curvaceous bottom half!
Pockets or no pockets?
Our pockets are really just for show (but are proper pockets if you want to use them) – but when you pick up the flap it matches with the beautiful lining you will have chosen. However, pockets will accentuate the area they are situated – so those with larger waistlines or rounded tummies be warned!
If you are apple, pear or bell shaped, selecting pockets with your jacket will help to achieve a more balance look to the front of the jacket.
Our pockets are designed to match the choice of collar, lapel and hem shape that you have chosen and the lining on the pocket flap also matches the beautiful lining you have chosen for your jacket.
TROUSER CHOICES
Trousers are such a personal preference, what suits a women is all down to what you feel comfortable in and how you might want to use the suit – day, evening or both. It’s also important that while the names are similar to those of jeans styles, they should not be confused as denim and casual looks and outfit pairings are completely different from what you would wear to the office.
We have 4 leg shape options available:
Narrow Leg
This is a style that is really in fashion just now, however we think that if you’re an apple shape then perhaps this isn’t the best look for you…while those who are ‘straight up and down’ can work this look effortlessly. Don’t get us wrong - you might live through the weekends in a pair of skinny jeans, however, when not teamed with that oversized top they aren’t quite so forgiving!
Straight Leg
This style is a ‘halfway house’ between the Narrow leg and Boot cut – while dropping straight to the ground, the trouser is not quite as flared and has a more conservative feel. This leg shape is well suited for those who are bottom heavy; the leg shape helps to balance your look.
Boot Cut
Thanks to the subtle kick at the bottom, this style works brilliantly with both flats and heels and is perhaps one of the most popular styles of trouser. Pear shapes should watch out, however, as the curves ‘in and out’ at the leg may accentuate larger thighs. In general Boot cut is a safe style option for many shapes and sizes.
Wide Leg
This is a style that works well moving from day to evening – wide legs work brilliantly with high heels, giving a great length to your legs and making you look taller. Like the Boot cut it is well suited to every shape, the wide leg is particularly good for those with larger hips and thighs as they hide a multitude of sins; as all our trousers are all fully lined, they will also feel amazing!
In addition, there are also 3 waistband heights to choose from:
Lower waisted
Our low waisted trousers are not your traditional hipsters style commonly associated with jeans, this height of waist band is ideal for the more daring amongst us and don’t mind a bit of midriff showing.
Standard waist
If you are indecisive then this is possibly the one to go for – it is neither low nor high waisted and is well suited for a variety of shapes and sizes as it sits around more or less at the height of your tummy button.
Higher Waisted
Like our Standard waisted trousers, this is also a very versatile style, suiting all shapes and sizes and sits at about waist level – for the smaller frame, this will help to draw attention to your nipped in waistline and for those who are the opposite, this will dress around your body, showing off your curves
Zips – yes, you will need one.
We know that the positioning of a zip can make all the difference to your shape – so we’ve given you 3 options that you can choose from:
Front Zip
This is the ‘tried and tested’ option which often comes as standard with store bought trousers – it’s great for easy access and always matched nicely with a button. Belt loops can also be chosen as an additional option with this zip location
Side Zip
The concealed side zip leaves the front of your trousers smooth, giving a flat front appearance and is less likely to draw attention to a larger tummy.
Back Zip
Don’t worry, you won’t have to ask your mates to zip you up in the pub – the concealed back zip gives a clean cut appearance to both your tummy and your hips.
With or without Belt Loop?
It’s a personal preference to have belt loops if you choose to have a front zip, but belt loops are not an option if you have a side or back zip – it makes zipping up your trousers too difficult if you have a belt as well.
SKIRTS
As well as our 3 different length options, we have two styles for you to choose from…
A Line
A-line skirts are designed to flatter any figure, especially for the more curvaceous, the A-line has a waistband and sits at about the same level as our lower waisted trousers, so skims your hips and helps balance you out.
Pencil
The traditional pencil skirt suits most body shapes, with, again, the knee length being the most flattering! Our skirt has no waistband and sits at about the same level as our standard waist trousers, at about your tummy button. However, for those who are petite the longer length should be avoided as you risk making your legs seem shorter.
As we’ve said this is only a guide: there are lots of gurus out there who can tell you what styles and colours will suit you best! Our role here is to provide the options for you – so that you are able make your decisions, make your mark, stamp your style and get exactly what you want, every time.
